The Guide For Teenage Hollowness and Depression

Updated: Jun 14, 2021

"Hollowness"- What does this mean? Empty in simple English. But in the world of emotions or feelings when someone speaks it, it's a big thing. This is because we as humans aren't designed to feel nothing, we are supposed to feel.

So then how come there are people who don't feel ? Now to know that we have to dive deeper into what they have been through. Mental health is as important as physical health but we as society "don't care". Pain, scars and worse health are not what we can see especially the ones connected to mental health. No one, absolutely no one deserves cold behavior.

The hidden pain and scars cause more blunders than the one seen does. It hurts more than the one seen. If someone has fever we will automatically be calm and composed to them. But when someone is not feeling good emotionally, we tell it's a lie. This behavior of ours push them in a black hole we ourselves wouldn't want to be in. With every bad word of ours they draw themselves more into the black hole. This is where the hollowness comes in. When this hollowness goes to a very far extent and tires them out and they end their life.

They weren't cowards as we would label them, but they were tired finding the light at the end of tunnel. They were lost, they felt that the world didn't need them and their feeling is absolutely correct. We as a society made them feel like that.

This hollowness is not only present in elders but also in teenagers. About 15% teenagers feel depressed. The main reason is that kids are shoved into a closed world especially in India. Parents don't even know that if their kids sleep or cry themselves to sleep. As a parent you should never throw out your kids friends out of their life. You as a parent have your life partner to share your worries with. But they don't have anyone.

Now don't tell that they have parents. About 60% of teenager's find it hard to open up to their parents. That's why they need friends. Parents and friends can never be same. Everyday a teenager needs someone of their age to talk to. Also one major issue is lying. About 96% of teenagers lie to their parents. Do you think they love it? No they don't, no one loves lying. It makes a person restless.

But these are problems, so now what's the solution? So the important thing is stop imprisoning your kids because you feel a certain way or you a think a certain way. Every human is "different" and they feel differently. Don't shout at them and ignore them. Instead go and understand them, not as parents with judgements. But as a human with no judgement. You may not have any idea of how much blunder their life has.

Also when a kid or a child want's to grow up fast. It's usually a sign of troubled childhood. By "troubled" it actually means troubled. To solve this try to build foundation of your house on love, care and understanding not on hate, lies, beating and scolding.

Visit them and take out time for them, know how they are, are they facing any challenge or trouble and if they are please help them. Don't go to them as you would visit a tourist place once in a while. And in case of kids this "once in a while" means when they get their results and that too bad ones. No doctor starts diagnosis from final stage. So try to know and understand where it all started. There can be a volcano of feelings behind their smile all waiting to be seen.
